A marriage in crisis can be a difficult and painful situation to be in. Whether the marriage is in crisis because of an adulterous affair or because you and your spouse have just generally grown apart, a marriage in trouble will take some effort to turn around and save.

What you need to decide upon is whether you truly want to save your marriage. If you want to save your marriage then there are certain steps that you can take to make that happen.

Before you can begin to save your marriage, you have to first of all face up to the problems that have brought your marriage to the point that it now is. If you've made some serious mistakes, then face those mistakes and be open and honest with your spouse about those mistakes. To save a marriage in crisis sit down with your spouse and explain your mistakes.

If one of your mistakes was that you just never had time for your marriage, then you are going to have to come up with a plan to prove to your spouse that you're ready to give your marriage the time and effort that it deserves. Take a long hard look at your schedule and decide where you can make time for your marriage.

If your mistake has been that you've never really emotionally committed to your marriage, then this is a major problem. For a marriage to work you have to be able to open yourself up to your spouse and share your hopes and dreams with your spouse and do so honestly. For many men this can be a difficult thing to do. They feel as though it is not 'manly' to open up to their wives and so they bottle up a lot of emotional baggage and will not share it.

To save a marriage in crisis begin by sharing your deepest and darkest secrets with your spouse. If you need to seek outside help to help you open up, then consider going to a relationship counselor on your own and also with your spouse.

What is also a good idea for a marriage that's in trouble, is if the two of you sit down together and write out a set of goals and targets for your marriage. This is, in effect, a Marriage Contract. A Marriage Contract is a document that both of you agree to and it can include such things as: who does what chores around the house? Who looks after the household budget? Is an agreed date night going to happen for the two of you? It might sound weird, but many couples have saved their marriages by using such a contract because it does work!

With a marriage in crisis if there is still real love between the two of you then any difficult situation can be overcome. It simply takes a real commitment and a proven plan to say a marriage.
