World Peace Day
While the efforts to promote world peace are around us every day, there is a one day reserved for the awareness to be on it and to help revive lost efforts for people to be a part of it. On September 21st the International Day of Peace takes place to promote peace and to remember the efforts that have been in order for us to have the peace we do have in place today.
There are many traditions that are upheld for World Peace Day, including the ringing of the peace bell at the United Nations headquarters. This bell stands for the prospect of absolute world peace being achieved one day. It also serves as a reminder of the loss of lives due to the wars that have taken place on Earth.
While the efforts of world peace have gone on for centuries, the realization and identification of a day dedicated to it only started in 1981. The goal is to help people to continue being inspired about the prospect of world peace. Making it a reality is going to take the efforts of everyone out there.
Yet it wasn’t until 2005 that the idea of World Peace Day took on enough meaning for countries around the globe to look at it for a span of 24 hours. Today you can be a part of many movements for world peace on that day each year. You can also watch videos of such events online to see how they are different in various parts of the world. You will find that some schools even organize these events to help encourage younger generations to recognize the importance of it.
We all need to realize that it isn’t only this one day per year though that world peace should be important to us. We need to make it a priority in our efforts each day. When we think about our own struggles in life we may often overlook what needs to be done globally. We all have the ability to make such changes to our own outlook if we would like to. We also need to realize that we will all benefit from world peace, now and for our future generations.
