Wine Tasting Tips

If you want to take part in wine tasting you need to make it as enjoyable as possible. Here are some great tips that will help ensure you get the most out of your experience. First, be selective about where you taste wine. There are many locations where you can do so. Sometimes you will find such events for free such as when your friends or family members host them.

However, most of them time you will have to pay. The higher the fees are the more you can anticipate a higher quality of wines to be offered. Yet it could be that the wine tasting event is for a fundraiser which can mean that the wine isn’t worth the price you will pay to taste it. You also need to pay close attention to dress codes for such events so that you won’t be turned away when you arrive.

It is important to make sure you eat in the hours before the wine tasting takes place. You don’t want to eat right before though or it can affect your taste buds. When you do eat before a wine tasting try to consume foods that are high in protein but low in carbohydrates. This way you can be sure your blood sugar level will be balanced and consistent. Your tasting abilities will also be consistently in place for you to enjoy.

Since part of effective wine tasting is to be able to smell it, be aware of the scents you have on. Go very light on perfumes and colognes including aftershaves. You don’t want them to falsely affect what you are smelling from the wine. Women need to avoid wearing any type of lipstick or lip gloss when they attend a wine tasting. These items can alter the taste of wine as well.

You also need to know your limit when it comes to wine tasting. Too many people have the false sense of security that they won’t be under the influence of alcohol this way. Then they drive off and end up with a DUI before the night is over. If you plan to taste as much wine as possible make sure you have an alternative plan in place for getting home safely afterwards.
