Dealing With Anger
Anger is an emotion that can consume a person if it isn’t dealt with. In many instances there is fear or the feeling of being betrayed that affects an individual. It can come across as anger though as they aren’t able to effectively deal with how they feel. A person can become angry for various reasons. If they feel life has treated them unfair those feelings tend to linger. It can also be a passing issue for example when someone is overwhelmed or they don’t get enough sleep.
There are various ways to deal with anger that can be more positive for you. Unresolved anger tends to lead to resentment and it can drain a person emotionally. It is important to be honest with yourself about your emotions. Is it really anger or something else? Do all you can to communicate with others about your anger. This often needs to be done after you have had time to think though.
Dealing with anger in the heat of the moment can result in even more issues. You may regret things you say or do. Parents need to remember that they set examples for their children. How they deal with anger is going to be part of how they too will deal with such situations. You may find yourself in power struggles with them as you are both dealing with anger ineffectively.
Those that struggle with anger issues may not realize it. They may have to be told by friends, family members, or employers. If you know someone with anger issues you owe it to them to bring it to their attention. Let them know you are there to offer them support. If you feel you are always angry over things you need to get help as well.
Counseling is one of the most effective ways to deal with anger. It doesn’t mean you won’t ever get mad again. However, it can help you to identify why you get angry. It can also help you to deal with it in a more effective manner. If your way of dealing with anger is yelling and screaming, you need to ask yourself how that helps the situation.
