The Perfect Product

You already know that information is the perfect product. It’s free, it’s easy to distribute, cost-effective and extremely lucrative. That’s why you sell it.

Information might just be the best product to offer your clients. Anyone can sell a widget. But only you can sell what you have to say. Only you can sell your ideas, your words and your expertise.

Of course some may argue that “anyone” can also sell information. This is true. But they can’t do it as well as you can. Or, should I say, as well as someone who truly understands the importance of information products, their value in the marketplace, and how to effectively and creatively develop and market these products.

The key is to create and sell your information products in such a way that not only allows you to increase your revenue stream, but also increases your visibility and ultimately, your credibility.

Remember, information is the one type of product that you completely control. From concept to creation to pricing and delivery, the success of your information is in your hands. That is why you must develop new and innovative ideas each and every time you sit down to write.

There is no magic method to creating information products. But there is such a thing as strategy. First, you must strategically select a topic that you know has an audience and that audience will be willing to pay for what you have to say. Once you decide on that topic, you must also decide what type of information product you are going to create. Will you be writing an e-Book? Or maybe you plan to create a pod cast. You may choose to create a combination of products. No matter what you decide, you must have a plan.

Next, you should entitle your information product something that will grab your intended audience’s attention.

For example, which title would you be more likely to read:

“How to create a website” OR
“Create a website that will catapult your business to success ”

Hopefully you chose the latter. The title alone offers a reason to read further. You know you will get something from it and that something is success. This is the type of action you want to evoke with your information products. Everything from topic, to title, to relevant and well-written content, is critical to the success of your information products.

The probability that you are saying something “new” isn’t very high. But the likelihood that you are saying something in a new way is what you should be aiming for.

If you start thinking about your business in terms of answering questions – important questions that your target market, ask – then you will be well-positioned to create, market and sell the perfect product. And that product is perfect thanks to your ability to recognize a need, provide an answer and make it available to your customers for an excellent price.

In fact, the perfect product is not only in-demand, it’s readily available and it’s up to you to provide the means for customers to buy it.
