There a few distinct features between a male and female iguana. Males carry large fat pockets over their head and have heavier lower jaws. They carry larger femoral pores on the lower side of their thighs. Males have larger and heavier heads. Female iguanas do not have heavy fat pockets on head and their jaws are smaller. Moreover, their femoral pores are also smaller.

Male iguanas erect their spine at back while in courtship and bobble the head. They are more aggressive while in courtship. At the same time they are timid also and will run away out of fear.

Female iguanas lay the eggs by digging tunnels. They do not hatch their eggs. The eggs get hatched themselves in warmth. All eggs get hatched simultaneously. Iguanas are eaten by human beings and many of their enemies. Several measures are required to save iguana from extinction by educating people who live in iguana inhabited areas, by their captive multiplication in zoos and imposing restriction on their hunting
